Art Director & 2D artist - Illustrated 2D sequences and sample art direction work
The illustrated 2D sequences was a couple of scenes accompanied by voiceover from the characters, talking about stories they had heard or experiences from their past. We opted to do this in a children’s book illustrated style. I worked off of the storyboards by Adriane Brennmoen as well as coming up with some of the compositions on my own.
The film was directed by Will Ashurst
Guidelines for art direction
As we had to work at a very high pace, we relied on coming up with guidelines rather than getting to do concept art of every element. These are some of the guidelines we used to define how snow is treated throughout the film.
Color script
I was responsible for setting up a framework and working with color artist Erik Storstein to come up with how we would use color and light throughout to tell the story of the film. I helped give handouts and review the work of lighters once they got started with the work as well. The image below is how we tracked the overall progress of colors in the film.
